Test Name: Bladder FISH


Methodology: FISH


Test Description

Disease: Transitional cell carcinoma of bladder is frequently associated with chromosomal alterations, including chromosomes 1, 3, ,5, 7, 9, 10, 17, and others, which may be detected with high sensitivity and specificity by FISH in exfoliated urothelial cells from urine samples. Results of the test are intended for use, in conjunction with current standard diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopy and urine cytology, as an aid for initial diagnosis of bladder cancer in patients with hematuria and subsequent monitoring for tumor recurrence in patients with a history of bladder cancer.

Specimen Requirements

Voided urine mixed 2:1 (v:v) with recommended PreservCyt (Hologic)


Storage and Transport

Specimen should be stored and transported refrigerated with a cool pack.
