Test Name: CD117

Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Test Description

Staining for CD117 highlights CD34+ stem cells, myeloblasts, promyelocytes, erythroblasts, some monoblasts, megakaryoblasts and mast cells. CD117 is also expressed by the blasts in acute myeloid leukemias, some subsets of T-acute lymphoblastic leukemias (early T-precursor ALL), some mixed lineage acute leukemias, and by mast cells in systemic mastocytosis.

Specimen Requirements

Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the acute myeloid leukemia add-on panel and the systemic mastocytosis add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.

Storage and Transport

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
