Test Name: CD11b

Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Test Description

Staining for CD11b detects mature granulocytes, myeloid precursors (excluding CD34+ blasts) and monocytes. Abnormal CD11b expression may be seen on myeloid blasts of some acute myeloid leukemias, on lymphoid blasts of precursor B lymphoblastic leukemias and precursor T-lymphoblastic leukemias, and in a large proportion of T- anaplastic large cell lymphomas. As co-expression of CD11b and CD34 is abnormal, this combination of markers may be used for minimal disease detection in AML.

Specimen Requirements

Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the leukemia/lymphoma screening panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.

Storage and Transport

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
