Test Name: CD16
Methodology: Flow Cytometry
Test Description
Staining for CD16 detects mature granulocytes, myeloid precursors, subsets of activated monocytes, NK cells and subsets of CD8+ T-cells. CD16 expression is also present in abnormal NK cell proliferations including NK cell leukemias. CD16 is a GPI-anchored protein. The complete or partial loss of CD16 expression on mature granulocytes is characteristic for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).
Specimen Requirements
Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the leukemia/lymphoma screening panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.
Storage and Transport
Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
