Test Name: CD23

Methodology: IHC

Test Description

CD23 is expressed in the membrane of subsets of peripheral blood mature B-lymphocytes and some B-cell found in the mantle zone of the B-lymphoid follicles and normal follicular dendritic cells. It is expressed by some B-cell neoplasms (e.g. chronic lymphocytic leukemia, hairy cell leukemia, marginal zone lymphoma). Staining for CD23 may be used to highlight normal or disrupted follicular dendritic cell networks in neoplasms such as follicular lymphoma (especially when excluding the presence of diffuse areas), marginal zone lymphomas with follicular colonization, lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma. Additionally, this marker may be positive in follicular dendritic cell tumors.

Specimen Requirements

A formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block is preferred specimen type or one (1) unbaked, unstained slide cut at 4-5 microns for H&E staining (required) and two to three (2-3) positively charged unstained slides cut at 3-4 microns for each test/antibody ordered.

Storage and Transport

Use cold pack during transport of paraffin blocks and unstained slides. Cold pack should not be placed in direct contact with the specimen during shipping
