Test Name: CD25

Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Test Description

Staining for CD25 (TAC, IL-2 receptor alpha chain) detects activated B-cells, T-cells and monocytes. CD25 is strongly expressed by hairy cell leukemia cells and variable expression may also be present in other B-cell lymphomas and T-cell lymphomas (most characteristically HTLV-related adult T-cell lymphoma/leukemia). Aberrant expression of CD25 is seen in on mast cells in systemic mastocytosis.

Specimen Requirements

Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the B-cell neoplasm add-on panel and the systemic mastocytosis add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.

Storage and Transport

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
