Test Name: CD3

Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Test Description

Staining for surface CD3 detects normal T-lymphocytes and is an ideal marker of normal mature T-cell enumeration in blood and marrow samples. Surface CD3 is also expressed at normal or abnormal levels by most mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and some precursor T-cell lymphoblastic lymphomas/leukemias. Cytoplasmic CD3 expression is present in all T-lymphoblastic lymphomas/leukemis and in some mixed lineage (T-lymphoid/myeloid) acute leukemias.

Specimen Requirements

Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the leukemia/lymphoma screening panel. Cytoplasmic CD3 is also performed as a part of the acute leukemia add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.

Storage and Transport

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
