Test Name: CD43

Methodology: IHC

Test Description

CD43 is normal expressed on the membrane of normal T-lymphocytes, some activated B-lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, plasma cells, platelets and B-lymphoid precursors (hematogones). Staining for CD43 is useful in characterizing abnormal B-immunophenotypes in B-cell lymphomas (e.g. marginal zone lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, CLL/SLL), and in marking poorly differentiated blastic infiltrates of myeloid or monocytic sarcoma, where CD43 is occasionally the only hematopoietic marker expressed by immunohistochemistry. CD43 is useful in supporting a hematopoietic origin for poorly differentiated neoplasms, as it is highly specific for hematopoietic lineage.

Specimen Requirements

A formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block is preferred specimen type or one (1) unbaked, unstained slide cut at 4-5 microns for H&E staining (required) and two to three (2-3) positively charged unstained slides cut at 3-4 microns for each test/antibody ordered.

Storage and Transport

Use cold pack during transport of paraffin blocks and unstained slides. Cold pack should not be placed in direct contact with the specimen during shipping
