Test Name: CD59

Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Test Description

Staining for CD59 detects hematopoietic cells of all lineages. CD59 is a GPI anchor-linked protein, and it is most often used in the diagnostic work up for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), where loss of this CD59 expression is used to identify abnormal PNH clones in erythrocyte, monocyte and granulocyte populations.

Specimen Requirements

Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the PNH analysis. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.

Storage and Transport

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
