Test Name: CD79b
Methodology: Flow Cytometry
Staining for CD79b detects normal B-cells at all stages of maturation associated with expression of surface immunoglobulin. Staining for this antigen is used in panels of antibodies used to characterize B-cell neoplasms, as it is often lost as a part of the aberrant B-cell phenotypes seen in this context (e.g. it is often negative in classic CLL/SLL).
Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the B-cell neoplasm add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.
Storage and Transport
Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
