Test Name: KIT Mutation Analysis (Bone marrow and peripheral blood)

Test Description

The KIT Mutation Analysis (Blood and Bone Marrow) assay uses targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology to analyze relevant genomic DNA that has been isolated from bone marrow and peripheral blood for mutations in exons 2, 8-11, 13, and 17 of the KIT gene to aid in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with suspected melanoma or gastric cancer.


Specimen Requirements

•Peripheral blood: 4 mL in EDTA tube.
•Bone marrow: 2 mL in EDTA tube.


Storage and Transport

Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen. Ship same day as drawn whenever possible; specimens <72 hours old preferred.
