Test Name: LAMBDA
Methodology: Flow Cytometry
Staining for immunoglobulin lambda light chain highlights subsets of mature B-cells (by surface staining) and plasma cells (by intracytoplasmic staining), as well as the neoplastic cells in mature B-cell lymphomas and plasma cell neoplasms. The kappa:lambda ratio is used to assess these neoplasms for clonality.
Testing for this surface antigen is typically performed as a part of the leukemia/lymphoma screening panel, while testing for cytoplasmic lambda is part of the plasma cell neoplasm add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.
Storage and Transport
Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
