Staining for cytoplasmic myeloperoxidase (MPO) highlights normal myeloid cells of neutrophil lineage at all stages of maturation (blasts to mature granulocytes), as well as subsets of monocytes. It is also expressed in the blasts of acute myeloid leukemias and some mixed lineage acute leukemias.
Testing for this antigen is typically performed as a part of the acute leukemia add-on panel. For customized testing panels including this antigen, please contact the Medical Director of the Flow Cytometry laboratory.
